Joaquin Sorolla

Joaquín Sorolla

Joaquín Sorolla (1863–1923) was a Spanish painter celebrated for his luminous, vibrant depictions of Mediterranean life, seascapes, and portraits. Known for his masterful use of natural light and loose, expressive brushwork, Sorolla captured scenes of beachgoers, fishermen, and family life with energy and realism. Trained in Valencia, he gained international acclaim in the early 20th century, especially after exhibitions in Paris, London, and New York. One of his most significant achievements is the monumental series Visions of Spain (1911–1919), commissioned by the Hispanic Society of America. Sorolla’s work bridges Impressionism and Spanish Realism, earning him a lasting place in art history.
