About the art:
Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) was a German-Swiss poet, novelist, and painter, best known for his philosophical and spiritual works. In 1946, Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his "inspired writings which, while growing in boldness and penetration, exemplify the classical humanitarian ideals and high qualities of style." Hesse was never known for his paintings as his writing & novels was what made him famous. He did painting as a way to escape from the horrors of World War I and his personal life, because of all these events, Hesse started to doubt his ability to write & thus started to channel his frustrations into art. He then painted Tessin-Gebirge, one of the Swiss Alps, with watercolours and pencil.
